How to Protect Yourself

Security is a state of mind.  Are you in?

 

Secure Log On

Use multi-factor authentication (MFA) for added security. MFA involves:

  • Something you know (e.g., password)
  • Something you have (e.g., phone with an authenticator app)
  • Something you are (e.g., biometric like fingerprint)
  • Use at least two of these factors when logging in

 

Password Tips

  • Strong Passwords: Use at least 15 characters with mixed case letters, numbers, and special characters like "&" or "$".
  • Unique Passwords: Use different passwords for each website and avoid using personal information, dictionary words, or simple combinations like "abc123".
  • Trusted Wi-Fi: Only connect to Wi-Fi networks you trust.
  • Turn Off Auto Connect: Disable automatic connect on your mobile device.
  • Create Passphrases in place of passwords: Form passphrases from sentences, like "I love watching the big bang theory at 10 pm" becoming "ilWtbbt@10p".
  • Password Vault: Use a password vault to securely store all your passwords. It encrypts your information, and you only need to remember one primary password.

 

Respond Quickly to Fraud Alerts

If you think your account has been compromised, call Third Coast Bank Customer Service at 833-844-7708 (Monday–Friday 8am–9pm, Saturday–Sunday 9am–5pm CT).

To report a lost or stolen debit card, call 833-844-7708.

To report phishing scams, email phishing@thirdcoast.bank.

 

Make Sure It is Really Us

Third Coast Bank will NEVER ask for:

  • Your online banking credentials
  • Your personal or business information via text message
  • Your full debit card payment information
  • Your Zelle registered email or phone number

Stay alert and be cautious of anyone asking for your personal information. We already have your details, so we do not need to ask for them. If you receive suspicious communication, contact your banker or branch.

 

Keep Your Devices Healthy

  • Be wary of emails asking for account information or banking credentials. Opening attachments or clicking links in suspicious emails can expose your system to malicious code.
  • Use a VPN for your computer and phone internet connections.
  • Install and regularly update virus/malware protection.
  • Regularly patch computers and servers.
  • Consider spyware detection programs.
  • Ensure secure sessions (https) for online banking sites.
  • Avoid automatic log-in features that save usernames and passwords.
  • Never leave your computer unattended while using online banking.
  • Make frequent backups of your data.
  • Never give out personal information over the Internet.
  • Treat your mobile device like a credit card. Protect it with a password.
  • Install a dedicated firewall.
